2001-11-06 HISTORY: ZIL-111
source:
L.M.Shugurov "Automobiles of USSR and Russia", volume 2., MOscow, 1994.

Unfortunately I don>t have time to translate it all right now, here are some facts:

- first shown to public in 1956 in Moscow on VDNH show.
- it was also called "Moskva" and first had the same chassis as ZIS-110 and new body.
- Chief Designer - A.N.Ostrovtsov, he created totally new chassis as well.
- very similar to Packard Carribean
- all major solutions were identical to GAZ-13 Chayka
- 10-12 cars a year were made (some 150 Chaykas were made every year).
- first serial model was made in 1958

modifications:
- ZIL-111A with air conditioning and smaller rear window.
- ZIL-111V cabrio limousine (on April 14 1961 Yuri Gagarin was brought on one of these to Kremlin)
- since 1962 replaced by ZIL-111G - slightly different body design.
- ultimately replaced in production by ZIL-114 in 1967

Please let me know if you have more questions.
